Climate Change and Human Rights

The world is facing a major climate crisis: in some countries high temperatures are relentless, in other countries floods are of significant magnitude, coupled with water scarcity and fires that occur in some countries worldwide.

In the face of these developments, the international community must work together to reduce global carbon emissions. Developing and developed countries must cooperate to mitigate the damage that climate change is causing.

Let us remember that the Principle of Common but Differentiated Responsibilities must be maintained.

International environmental treaties such as the Paris Agreement must be respected and countries must continue to work towards reaching the historic agreement to combat climate change, in order to have a sustainable future.

Recall that two years ago, the World Meteorological Organization estimated that between 2022 and 2026 the average temperature could be higher than that of the last five years. Data suggesting that the Paris Agreement could be in jeopardy.

The human rights of millions of people are at risk, starting with the right to a healthy environment, the right to water, the right to food, mainly, among others.

That is why it is necessary for all nations to work together to find solutions to the challenge posed by Climate Change, to establish realistic goals in the short, medium and long term.
