The Summit of the Future: Diplomatic Multilateralism

On September 22 and 23, the Summit of the Future was held at the United Nations headquarters in New York. Approximately 130 state leaders attended this great event.


Improving the world for future generations was one of the central themes of this important meeting, at which three significant documents were adopted:


1.- The Pact for the Future;

2.- The Global Digital Pact; and,

3.- The Declaration on Future Generations.


Issues such as sustainable development and human rights are supported by the aforementioned documents, together with the broad international consensus reached.


It is important to note that 56 commitments to action make up the Pact for the Future. In addition, the diplomatic presence to adopt this document was fundamental to make dialogue, cooperation and consensus possible.


The Leadership adopted by the United Nations was fundamental in achieving this consensus, together with the diplomatic multilateralism developed for this purpose.


The effective support of multilateral institutions will be fundamental to achieve cooperation and solidarity among nations for future generations.
